COMMITMENT

A HAND TO THE PLANET!

Compliant with our environmental commitment, our free zone operation management is Carbon Neutral certified, has been awarded Ecological Blue Flag for the Climate Change Category, and, besides, our buildings are LEED and ISO 14001 certified.

In June 2018, AFZ became an authorized recyclable waste collection center for the Ecoins initiative (the first virtual e-currency that gives value to sustainability). That’s why during our monthly recycling fairs, participants can exchange -for this virtual currency- their clean, dry, and separated recoverable waste.

SUSTAINABILITY

At AFZ, our commitment to sustainability is based on a three-dimensional vision that encourages conscious actions in the economic, social, and environmental fields.

We also recognize the relevance of contributing to the achievement of the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, raised in 2015 by the members of the United Nations Organization (UN).

SDG 1 No Poverty: Through our “WE GROW” program, we measure the multidimensional poverty of our collaborators and their families. To this effect, we use the Business IPM tool developed by the Costa Rican non-profit association Horizonte Positivo, in partnership with the Poverty and Human Development Initiative of the University of Oxford (OPHI). With the IPMe results, we have generated initiatives to improve the quality of life of our people.

SDG 4 Quality Education: The “WE GROW” program includes an initiative focused on closing identified educational gaps among our collaborators in literacy, elementary, high school, and even university education.

SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being: All our collaborators have free access to medical services through our Business Medical Clinic, where preventive campaigns are developed throughout the year and a culture of good habits for optimal and comprehensive health is promoted.

SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy: More than 2000 solar panels installed in our business city supply power to motors or systems with 24/7 operations such as our treatment plant or lighting in common areas. 100% of our outdoor parking spaces are illuminated by solar energy.

SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth: AFZ hosts the operation of 22 multinational companies that jointly generate more than 11,000 direct jobs. This in turn is multiplied by the enormous diversity of active production chains in various sectors such as food services, cleaning, construction, technological infrastructure, consulting, security, and many more.

SDG 10 Reduced Inequality: We promote quality education and access to decent work opportunities, as key tools for reducing inequalities.

SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities: We are aware of the impact that our business generates, that is why we work from a triple-use perspective -social, environmental and economic- to operate responsibly, taking into account the expectations of all our stakeholders.

SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production: We operate by integrating responsible practices in all our activities. This ensures efficient use of resources and harmonious growth in the economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

SDG 13 Climate Action: We are aligned with local and global decarbonization goals so that our free zone operations management is Carbon Neutral certified. For two consecutive years, we have been awarded the Ecological Blue Flag in the Climate Change Category, our buildings are LEED compliant, and we have earned the ISO 4001 certification, which undoubtedly is the basis of our environmental management strategy.

SDG 17 Partnerships to Achieve the Goals: Our mission is to design, build, and maintain global business communities through responsible practices with international quality services that contribute to the development of Costa Rica. Only by establishing alliances that generate a shared value with all our stakeholders, can we pave the way to achieve this great goal.

AFZ has supported us in different ways in the management of sustainability actions. It has a Social Responsibility Committee, a space that opens up the possibility for companies to share any program they consider applicable for everyone. On environmental issues, just because AFZ is Blue Flag and Carbon Neutral certified, the companies that have offices there are very proud, in addition to the recycling campaigns they carry out monthly. AFZ supports our HP Social Responsibility Program in many ways”.
