AFZ commemorates World Car-Free Day with a contest.

The business city promotes the use of sustainable transportation.

This September 22nd is World Car-Free Day, and AFZ has decided to join the commemoration with a contest that encourages its community to leave their cars at home and use more sustainable means of transportation to get to the office.

Individuals who use public transportation, bicycles, or carpool and post an Instagram Story tagging the @somosafz profile between September 20th and 22nd will be entered into a draw for sustainable prizes made by local producers.

Environmentally friendly alternatives.

Sustainable mobility is a matter of great importance at AFZ. The business city has charging stations for electric vehicles, covered bike parking, bus service to and from Alajuela, Heredia, and San Jose, and electric-assisted bicycles available for free internal transportation.

That’s why World Car-Free Day is a date that the free trade zone harnesses to promote a reduction in the carbon footprint generated by vehicles. According to the National Meteorological Institute, 44% of CO2 emissions in Costa Rica come from transportation.

A date to raise awareness.

Car-Free Day is an initiative that began to be implemented in some countries in the 1990s. Since 2010, the commemoration has gained strength, and lately, it has gained global reach.

The objective of this commemorative day is to raise awareness about the carbon footprint of transportation and its impact on the climate crisis. If you decide to join in this year and come to the office using more sustainable alternatives, don’t forget to post your story. In addition to being good for the planet, your sustainable action could win you prizes at AFZ.
