América Free Zone (AFZ) received the innovation in business environmental management with focus on climate change award, granted by the National Council of Rectors (CONARE) for its achievements and contributions to the sustainable mobility project in the decarbonization of the urban transportation within the free zone and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are extremely honored to receive this award that highlights our efforts to promote sustainable initiatives, reduce our environmental footprint and improve people’s quality of life. This recognition encourages us to continue improving and providing well-being initiatives to our clients and collaborators,” said Laura Arce, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at AFZ.
Unique in the region
Currently AFZ is the only free trade zone in the region that has a sustainable mobility project, which makes it a pioneering park within the business model, innovation, prestige and national and international recognition, which seeks to improve air quality and promote healthy lifestyles.
Some of the initiatives, in terms of environmental mobility that the free zone promotes are the creation of three double charging stations for electric vehicles, the implementation of the use of electro-assisted bicycles that seek to reduce the use of vehicles for internal transportation and the creation of an exclusive cycle path for safe transit.
In addition, the business park has obtained LEED certifications for several of its buildings and its experience is based on transforming the traditional concept of office rental into an innovative community concept, which generates unique experiences for each of its clients and collaborators. It is currently certified with ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015, Carbon Neutrality and has been awarded the “Bandera Azul”, climate change category.
AFZ is located in the province of Heredia and currently generates employment opportunities for more than 12,000 people, who are part of a business park of 29 multinational knowledge-intensive services companies.
Its commitment is based on sustainability, the economic growth of the country and the comprehensive development of people, through innovative and technological solutions, as well as complementary value-added amenities and services.
